Carol White and Patsy Collins - 1950

From the Bi-State Weekly Friday, July 28, 1950

TWO DELMAR GIRLS APPEAR ON TELEVISION

Miss Carol White and Miss Patsy Collins, two of Delmar's most talented tap artists, appeared on Billy Tryall's Show, Salisbury Dance Revue, televised last Thursday evening, 9 to 9:30 P.M., over WMAR-TV.

For Miss White, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis White, it was her first appearance over television and the second for Miss Collins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Collins. She appeared over the same station on the Saturday night amateur show two weeks ago.

Dick Here!
Howard I wonder how many folks are still around the remember Bill Tryall? Bill and I took tap dancing lessions from him when we were in elementary school. He did quite a routine with us. Playing on the fact that we were identical twins. His studio was at the corner of Maryland Ave and Camden Ave. He was an old vaudevillw performer and probably burlesque also. What a character he was. Patsy went on to be a Rockett at Radio City Music Hall.

These snippets of old news bring tears to my eyes, Howard.

Those were times of decency and modesty, were they not?

Today's standards of moral debauchery would replace "talented tap artists" with "talented rap artists" and parents having the same last name would be unheard of.

"Miss White, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis White [and] Miss Collins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Collins"

Howard, I'm sitting here rereading those lines and I can't help but think how many of us, perhaps all but a few of us, should be spayed or neutered.

Wow I guess I am one of the old ones that remember Billy Tryall! My sister took lessons from him, and I remember being there watching her tap dance. I love these old memories Howard, keep them up!! Dick, my Mom says that Patsy Elliott was also a Rockette at Radio City Music Hall. What an entertainer Billy Tryall was. Does anyone remember the skating rink called Broyles? Jane

Jane: Dick here!
Patsy Elliott was the one I'm thinking of. My memory isn't what it used to be. I know now that Maryland Ave and Camden isn't one of the better areas in Salisbury now. We used to walk home from Pinehurst School all through that area. I understand a kid today has no business walking through that area now! Dick
