Vandalism Strikes The Caboose

Regardless how hard the citizens try to present a decent image of Delmar there is always one or two people who will destroy any improvement other people make. Last night someone kicked in the door of the caboose uptown. Chris Walters stopped by and patched it back up so it is presentable again. It is bad enough we have the LeCates building, which seems to be a Mayor and Council approved sight for the town. You have to wonder where were the police when it happened?

Comments:
Howard- With all due respect, I think you're out of line in maligning the police over this. There is maybe 1 or 2 patrols out there at a time. They can't be expected to be everywhere. As much as I hate to see the caboose vandalized, I'd rather the police be spending their time patrolling hotspots like Chestnut Manor and East East st.

there to busy at the wawa getting coffee

I would wager that alcohol was a contributing factor.

Howard said "You have to wonder where were the police when it happened?"
I've got to agree with 5:09. That's like saying "You have to wonder where Howard was with his camera when it happened?" Sounds kind of ridiculous now doesn't it, Howard?

Anon 8:55 Howard is not paid to take your picture. The police are paid to prevent crime and they didn't prevent it. There is no excuse they can gave for not preventing it.

If the town did not have a caboose the door could not have been vandalized.

I'm thinking youthful vandals. Pumpkins were stolen from a neighbors front porch and found busted on State Street last night too.

What night did this happen? I wonder if it was wednesday night when there was 2 officers on and they were conducting some drug enforcement around town. They had 3lock ups from one stop.

I guess they should have just let them go and set up surveillance on the caboose.

Sorry but I guess you can see that I don't agree with you that this is the fault of the police. Heck, if an officer drove past once an hour that still would not be enough to stop someone from kicking in the door. One would have to drive past probably every 10 minutes which would be riculious.

It is remarkable you know what the Delmar Police do or did, as they post about zero information on their activities. One reason why the town is critical of them is because they never let the town know that they do anything.

Don't we have surveillance cameras uptown?

The police department can't be everywhere, but there needs to be more of a presence in town. I live in town and rarely see police cars drive through the neighborhood. This would deter some of the vandalism that is taking place in town.

Maybe if the Cafe was still open, Linda would have been around to deter these punk kids of Delmar.

I blame it on the schools for not teaching them how to act...The government took away the parents' right to discipline a child, and they do control the public school environment, do they not?

Well,,, that makes them the disciplinarians of all these kids!

Once again an "F"...Maybe we should give out ice cream to all youngin's who come home at dusk!

...With a Steelers Hoodie on, of course!

It was probably done by some vegabonds that bed down in the LeCates building....

Hard to believe that we dress up an entire street that is showcased by a dilapidated building on the corner of the main drag...

FOR MORE THAN TWENTY YEARS!!!!

The saying goes,,,, "You can put lipstick on a pig, but you STILL gotta pig"

Final note...When working at Goodyear, we continually saw Delmar Police patrols in the newly annexed part of town. They came through all the time, day and nite.

One morning we came to open the shop to find the ENTIRE three month old parking lot covered with donughts, burnout tracks and skidmarks...I mean the ENTIRE 100FT x 300FT surface, which happened to be under brand new, hi-tech street lighting....

It was so nice to found out later a motorcycle "club" shot a video under the lights in the parking lot.

How long did that take???

Lawless people do lawless acts because they have no fear of authority nor respect for it.

WE ALL PAY THE PRICE for the few "bad apples".

The P.W. guy in the little dump truck rides around all the time (doing nothing) He must have seen something.

Howard- Cops are not paid to prevent crime, they are paid to investigate crime.

From the Delmar Police Website;

The Mission of the Delmar Police Department is to work with all Citizens to preserve, and to maintain Human Rights, protect property and to promote individual
Responsibility and Commitment to the community

Excellent statement Howard, it is indeed there responsibility, thats what they are paid for.

So, let me see if I got this right Howard. When a Crime is committed, no matter how small, its the fault of the Police. Not the lack of lighting downtown right now. The new lights have not been working, in case you dont know. We all know you got a beef with the Cops, public works, government and so on. You are an example of what I believe is a trend. Lets find someone at fault, and forget about personal responsibility. We must blame someone for any event. Hell, Bush was blamed for Katrina, why not Cops for crime, Store Keepers for gas prices, State Highway for the litter, and You for mothers who smoke while pregnant. That Cabooose has always been broke into for years for curiosity, shelter, and teenage sex. Lighting will help with the problem, cry baby.

I think a 6' fence with a gate is in order.

9:43 AM"
A scanner helps and knowing the right people to talk to also helps.

Anon 3:42 - You're an idiot!
You wrote: "Howard- Cops are not paid to prevent crime, they are paid to investigate crime".

What ever happened to "To serve and protect?"

THAT is the question that has been asked in Delmar for a LONG time!

The citizens do NOT feel they or their property is being protected, get it???

11:16 am Beauty parlors, barber shops and the fire department....anywhere else I should check for insider information? I shouldn't have to belong to the good ol' boys network to know what's happening in Delmar.

I agree but unfortunately I have found that is what it takes in this area.
