The Republic of Molossia Celebrates Emperor Norton Day
While looking up up a few bits of information on Emperor Norton I, I hit upon the Republic of Molossia which has recognized today as Emperor Norton I Day. The Republic of Molossia is located in the western United States. it has it's own its own Navy, Naval Academy, Space Program, Railroad, Postal Service, Bank, tourist attractions, measurement system, holidays, online movie theater, online radio station, and even its own time zone.
The Country is ruled by Molossian President Kevin Baugh.
Molossia does have custom and visa requirements
Missionaries and salesmen are prohibited from entering the country.
Molossia is at war with East Germany. It's President has said they would sign a peace treaty with East Germany but the only land mass that is still East Germany is Ernst Thälmann Island (Cayo Ernesto Thaelmann), off the coast of Cuba, which is unoccupied and as such there is no one to sign a peace treaty with.
Molossia is like The Kingdom of North Dumpling Island, which is a small piece of land just off the coast of Connecticut and the private residence of Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway Personal Transporter. Kamen declared the island to be an independent state with its own currency (in increments of Pi) and has its own navy (an amphibious vehicle)Although his independence isn’t officially recognised Kamen even signed a non-aggression pact with then-president George H.W. Bush.
And of course there is the Conch Republic that was established by secession of the Florida Keys from the United States of America, on April 23rd, 1982 in response to a United States Border Patrol Blockade setup on highway U.S.1 at Florida City just to the north of the Florida Keys.
These micronationalists represents that famous Liberterian Ludwig von Mises' argument that "whenever the inhabitants of a particular territory, whether it be a single village, a whole district, or a series of adjacent districts, make it known, by a freely conducted plebiscite, that they no longer wish to remain united to the state to which they belong at the time, but wish either to form an independent state or to attach themselves to some other state, their wishes are to be respected and complied with"
