Restaurant: Impossible - Rascals - New Castle Delaware

My wife was off from work today and she likes to watch reality shows on the various networks, one of which is Restaurant: Impossible - a knockoff of Kitchen Nightmares with Chef Gordon Ramsay. Restaurant: Impossible features Chef Robert Irvine a man whose bio says he has 25 years in the culinary profession, Chef Robert Irvine has cooked his way through Europe, the Far East, the Caribbean and the Americas, in hotels and on the high seas. Long story short Chef Irvine fix up failing restaurants using $10,000 in two days.

One of the episodes we watched today was an attempt to revive the business of Rascals in New Castle Delaware. The episode was taped about the beginning on 2011 and has aired a number of times but this was the first time I saw it. The episode was written about in the News Journal. Rascals, in business since 1965, received a routine Delaware Division of Public Health restaurant inspections. If you had seen this episode of how filthy the restaurant looked you would have been shocked.

Now various reports are the Food network filming crew made a certain amount of mess in order to make the place look bad but there is no way the crew could have made that place look that bad. It was accumulated filth. The restaurant owner did not dispute the 13 dead mice found in the place. Back to the Delaware Division of Public Health restaurant inspections, looking at the online reports the restaurant has shows semi annual inspection from 2007. the write ups of the place were; 2007 - quantity and availability of water, 2008 - packaging of open products, 2009 - no violations, 2010 - cleaning of equipment. From what I saw the place should have been closed.

Now over at Yelp the place had excellent reviews prior to the TV Show taping the clean up and turn around there. Supposedly the BBQ was excellent but that would not a surprise as the best BBQ is cooked in rather dirty places. But after the cleanup Over at Yahoo is a range of good/ bad reviews from before and after the TV Show. So who knows today how the restaurant really is? Lets hope today the restaurant is a great place.
