The Hunger Games

I finished reading "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins tonight.  I really didn't think I would like it but my brother and daughter said they enjoyed it and sure enough even tho it is written on a 5th or 6th grade level it draws you into the story and you can't put it down.   Being a fan of the TV show "Survivor" it is simply a couple of notches up and it takes you to the "Hunger Games".  I even shed a tear when Rue, the 12 year old, got a spear in the stomach - touching.  So now I have to go out and get the other two volumes of this series.

The Amore Buonopane Chili Dinner

I went out to the Amore Buonopane  benefit Chili dinner tonight at All Saints Episcopal Church at 10th and Grove street Delmar.  It is still going (until 7Pm) should you want to run over.  a variety of chili's so you get to pick your own, nice selection of bread and desserts (the orange cake was exceptional) and it is all good .

I sit opposite Gary Horseman while eating chili and he be dazzled me with stories.  Gary is a National Treasure or at least a Delmar Treasure when it comes to stories - some or most of them you should take with a grain of salt.   The most recent one he told me about tonight was when the Delmar - Sharptown road was first paved it was as smooth as glass and people in town (adults not just kids) would roller skate on it out as far as Providence Church Road.  He said there was usually only one or two cars on it in the evening so it was safe to do.

Chili Dinner tonight

Remember Amore Buonopane is having a benefit  Chili Dinner from 4 to 7 tonight at All Saints Episcopal Church at 10th and Grove street

Delmar Little League Parade - 2012

Today was the Delmar Little League Parade and Opening day. Remember Chicken BBQ is being served at the field today. I did attend the parade and below are some photos. Click on the photo to enlarge. The parade lasted about 15 minutes and certainly none of this could have occurred without; Town Employees, the Fire department, the school, and a big bunch of volunteers and little League coaches and sponsors.
The lead people on any Delmar Parade is the Public Works Department and The Fire Department blocking off streets
and certainly these two on the left are key to any parade
The parade is lead by the Delmar police department
And the end of the parade is the Delmar police

Never Trust A Rabbit

Today in 1979 President Jimmy Carter was attacked by a rabbit while on a canoe trip in Georgia. He beat it away with a paddle.

Little League Parade Saturday

The Delmar Little League Parade is tomorrow. Line up for the parade begins at 8:00 a.m. at Delmar High school. The Parade will begin promptly at 9:00. Motorist should consider alternative routes in driving thru Delmar.

As usual the Little League will be doing chicken BBQ on Opening Day starting from about 10 am to 5 pm.

Hydrant Flushing Tonight

The Town of Delmar will be flushing water lines tonight starting at 9 P.M. It’s done to rid the system of any accumulated sediment so that the Town can provide residents and visitors alike with the highest water quality possible and to ensure that fire hydrants are operating properly in case of an emergency.

While the flushing is being done users of our water system may notice a drop in pressure. You should not experience a total loss of water pressure. Your water should return to normal within a few hours.

Water users are advised that some discoloration of the water may occur if you draw water while Public Works is flushing near your home. If this occurs you should wait until public works is out of the area and then run cold water from the faucet nearest to the water meter for several minutes and it should clear up.

It’s recommended that no laundry be done during the flushing period to prevent discoloration and before doing laundry, residents are advised to run the cold water to make sure it runs clear.

Motorists are asked to use caution on streets where flushing is being done; there may be temporary ponding of water in those areas.
