The Wednesday Night Family History Library Tour

Last Wednesday I went to the tour and presentation of the material available in the Family History Library.  This Tour and Presentation was put on as part of the Lower Delmarva Genealogical Society September meeting and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Family History Center. Patt Angell, Director of the Center, showed us the Family History Room which has several computers and microfilm machines in it.  You can access the Family Search.org site and Ancestry.org for free to search for material from their computers at the History room.  In addition you can look at their catalog of microfilm and order (for a price) a roll of microfilm or microfiche with family history documents on them.  The microfilm/microfiche has to stay at the Family History room.  Since the Mormons have the largest collection of family history material in the world this history center is must visit for anyone attempting to research their family tree.  It does have limited hours; Tuesday evening 7PM to 9 PM and Wednesday morning 9AM till 12.  However Pat Angell said she is always available to open the History Room and to just call her.  The Phone Number at the Family History room is 410-742-9431.  The address is; 106 Greenlawn Lane Salisbury Maryland.

Directions to 106 Greenlawn Lane is head East on Old Ocean City Road and after passing the intersection of Old Ocean City Road - Philip Morris Drive take the first left, Greenlawn lane and the LDS Church is at the end of Greenlawn Lane and the Family History Center entrance is on the left side of the church.
In 2001, Congress first passed a resolution introduced by Sen. Orrin hatch of Utah to designate October as Family History Month since that time a number of History Societies have had special programs to help people trace their "roots" in October.  Altho the  Lower Delmarva Genealogical Society is not running any special programs you can always email your request for help on your family tree to lowerdelmarva@Yahoo.com
And the Sussex County Genealogical Society is putting on a "Introduction to Genealogy Research for beginners" 2 pm to 3:30 Pm October 3rd at the Lewes Public Library Contact Sheryl Schulte (sherylaschulte@gmail.com
