Making sure they stay put
A Victorian-era grave cage or “mortsafe” was intended to keep grave robbers from
thieving jewelry or organs from graveyard corpses. When you have really rotten family members some people used this to make sure they didn't come back. It could be used in place of the extra large and heavy tombstone placed on the evil person's grave to ensure they couldn't crawl out. The next time you see a really large tombstone in a cemetery think about that.
